Dressing Gowns/Robes - All Things Lounge - Pattern Tuesday
It’s Pattern Tuesday! Today we are going to explore the wonderful world (and somewhat forgotten world) of dressing gowns/robes. As with all Pattern Tuesdays I will be focusing on Indie pattern designers due to the longevity of the patterns. The five families will typically release a dressing gown/robe pattern each season so if you want a commercial pattern, there is a 95% chance you will be able to find one.
When undertaking research for this weeks exploration, I discovered some wonderful pattern designers I had never heard of. I encourage you all to explore further with the links provided, I feel every week I am discovering a new designer, and it is so wonderful to see the indie designer world growing so rapidly in comparison to 10 years ago when there were only a handful.
I personally believe dressing gowns and robes are gender neutral, and as such I will not be gender catergorising the following patterns.

Dressing Gowns/Robes
Named Patterns
The Lahja (gift in Finish) is a straight cut gown in both short and long variations. The gown has a belt fastening and large patch pockets. This gown would suit a lovely mid-heavy weight fabric, and could be sewn in a semi stable knit.
Size Range: Bust 76 - 134cm; Waist 60 - 118cm; Hips 84 - 142cm

Make by TFS
The Lucie Robe is a full length, oversized robe. Key features include an elongated collar, straight sleeves, turn back hems, inseam pockets and waist tie. The length can be lengthened/shortened as desired.
Size Range: Bust 79.5 – 149.5cm; Waist 59.5 - 124.5cm; Hips 89.5 – 159.5cm

Tessuti Fabrics
The Tessuti Robe is an oversized gown and features dropped shoulders, wide sleeves, large patch pockets and a waist tie. This pattern can be easily adjusted to suit desired length.

Merchant and Mills
The Sunday by Merchant and Mills is a traditional oversized dressing gown. It features a shawl collar, patch pockets, inner tie (like the best dressing gowns) and a belt fastening.

Kate’s Sewing Patterns
I really like this robe, it features subtle flared sleeves with stitched in cuffs, along with an oversized fit and belt fastener. This robe is a beautiful companion to loungewear.

Muna and Broad
The Medlow Robe is a lovely dressing gown with large pockets (a win in any garment) and a modest overlap, fastened with a belt. This gown would complement any wardrobe and would be a snugly winter addition.

An oversized robe, the Titania features optional side vents (slit), wide binded hem and is fastened with a belt. A simple but lovely robe.

Sew Over It
The Sylvia Robe is a lovely 1920’s style robe, crafted to not just be for the home but also for out on the town. This gown comes in a long and short variation with subtle shaping. This pattern, although suited for the warmer months could easily be sewn in heavier fabric for the colder months.

Seamwork
One of Seamwork’s first patterns, the Almada is a short robe (falling above the knees), intended to be sewn in light fabrics with plenty of drape. The robe features oversized straight sleeves paired with an oversized belt.

Tammy Handmade
The Hayley Robe is an oversized robe with a lovely silhouette. It features dropped shoulders, full sleeves, belt loops and fastener along with optional patch pockets. This robe is beginner friendly and can be made from a range of fabrics from silk to terry.

Goheen Designs
The Inara is an above the knee robe with three quarter sleeves. This gown features a curved hem, raising to the sides with bound front edges. The gown is fastened with a belt. A classic fashion gown whilst getting ready for a night out.

In The Folds
The Whitlow Robe is a relaxed fit robe with an above knee and below knee option. The robe features a deep overlap with inseam or patch pockets (your choice) along with raglan sleeves, a shaped collar band and waist tie. The hem is facing finished and the sleeves can be shortened if desired.
