2021, the year of new life. A number of my friends are expecting (yay!), a great excuse for me to up skill and make some baby clothes. I decided to invest in a multi-style bodysuit pattern by the lovely Ikatee patterns in France, giving variety for the number of little ones entering the world (for those that know me, I love French patterns).

For this first bundle, I opted to sew a traditional lapped shoulder bodysuit, in both one (long sleeve) and three (short sleeve) month sizes along with matching burp cloths. The bodysuits were made as per instructions, my advice when sewing this pattern is to read the instructions first (as with all patterns) and highlight the variations adopted (the instructions include all variations together, and it can get confusing, especially late at night).

Overall, the instructions are really well written (and yes in English!), and all up a single bodysuit took roughly one hour to whip up. The binding was the only challenging aspect, it was fiddly due to the nature of size. I opted to sew the binding right sides together, and then when folding to the wrong side, straight stitched the raw edge down, finishing with the coverstitch, sealing the raw edge in place (and hiding the hold down straight stitch). All other construction, was as written. I did invest in a snap press for this project, it was well worth the investment (finish and ease), and I am looking forward to using it in future bodysuits (for little ones and myself).

The burp cloths were made from four layers of gauze, finished with matching binding to each bodysuit. I sized the burp cloths based on personal coverage, wider than my neck to shoulder measurement, and roughly the length from the base of my shoulder blade to the top of my bust.

I am really happy with the final products, and they were well received by my friend at her gorgeous baby shower.
