The Loungewear Edit
Hello Pattern Tuesday! Today is August Part Three - The Loungewear Edit. When I think of loungewear, I think of relaxed, oversized clothing, snuggly and comfortable to sleep/clean/relax in. Loungewear can range from activewear, t-shirts, hoodies, track pants and even dresses, the list goes on. To keep things simple today, I will be highlighting some fantastic indie pattern designers you may not have heard of (and some you may need a reminder of) that have some wonderful loungewear patterns among their catalogue. Many of the designers have patterns for male, female and children, as well a range of languages.
I hope today inspires you to branch out from your go to pattern designers and try something new. As always the main page for each designer will be linked via the designers name, and all photos are courtesy of the respective designers.
Bara Studio
Bara Studio are based in Germany, all patterns are designed by Bara Studio owner Christina. Patterns are available in both English and German and the catalogue is extensive, with sophisticated designs featuring drape and ease. I personally love the simple utilitarian style, but with a touch of infused character.
Melilot
Melilot are based in Norway, with patterns available in English and Norwegian. There are a range of patterns for women, men and kids, along with a great range of accessories (hats, bags etc.). The silhouettes are classic, not too structured and feature a beautiful balance of drape and definition. The dresses in particular I could imagine lounging on a lawn in summer.
Bella Loves Patterns
Based in London, Bella Loves Patterns is designed by professional tailor/seamstress Isabela. Each pattern is crafted to perfection but tailored to teach even the most novice sewer. Bella Loves Patterns has a distinct style, tailored but relaxed, leaving even the most formal of garment the ability to be lounged in. The Traveller Coat, Luna Joggers and Interstellar Hoodie are all on my list to sew, relaxed, cosy and flattering.
Maven
Maven Patterns are based in the UK and have a range of patterns from relaxed to fitted. The Simone Set drew my eye with an elasticated trouser and a beautiful camisole with split straps. Maven Patterns never cease to amaze with small but striking details setting their patterns apart.
Schnittchen Patterns
Schnittchen Patterns are based in Germany and produce patterns for the full family. Schnittchen patterns are available in both German and English and take a modern twist on functional everyday clothing. The silhouette of the patterns is flattering, thoughtful and brings character to each garment. I definitely have the Ada sewing pattern on my sewing wish list.
WISJ
WISJ are based in the Netherlands, producing patterns in English and Dutch. WISJ have a great range of patterns for adults (unisex) and kids, many of which are free of charge (hands down the fairy wings and crown are my favorite). Each pattern is versatile and designed for the active family, the perfect for lounging in.
MadeIt Patterns
MadeIt Patterns are based in the UK and pride themselves on producing patterns which are functional, modern and have a twist. Patterns are available for both adults and kids, many in knit fabrics, reinforcing the functional ethos. Due to their functionality, there is a plethora of patterns to choose from, and MadeIt have done a fantastic job at creating unique feature to each garment, differing it from what already exisits.
I AM
I AM patterns, based in France produce patterns for women, men and children. The patterns are relaxed, simple but with eye catching details elevating the garments. Patterns are available in English and French, and there is an extensive range of lounging options.
Deer and Doe
Deer and Doe are hands down my favourite indie pattern designer. Based in France, patterns are available in both English and French. I love the cut of the patterns, flattering for all body types, and personally the block is extremely easy to use and adjust. For lounging, the Dressed book/ebook is a go to source. The garments are versatile (and can be easily dressed up and down) providing the perfect capsule wardrobe, not only in style but also comfort.
True Bias
True Bias are very well known, and I could not do a loungewear spotlight without featuring them. Based in the US, Kelli is the designer behind the name. Patterns are available for women, men and kids and are such a joy to sew. I have a wardrobe of Ogden Camis which are my go to summer casual wear. The Hudson pants are a flattering take on track pants, and are next on my to sew list. Each pattern is designed to be functional, easily paired with other garments and dressed up or down depending on need.
Papercut Patterns
Papercut Patterns are based in New Zealand and produce a range of garments for both women and children. Their garments can be dressed up for work attire, or can be worn casual, they are extremely diverse. I personally have made a number of their patterns. I enjoy lounging in the Tula Pants (originally Anima, peg leg fit) made in a warm brushed fleece and the Solar Tee which I have made as a cosy pullover. The Ensie tee has also been a casual wardrobe staple of mine with simple colour blocking and the ability to vary pattern weights depending on intended use.
Make By TFS
Make by The Fabric Store is based in New Zealand and produces a fantastic range of patterns, well thought out and incorporating industrial and commercial techniques to educate the home sewer. Make by TFS style is dominated by flowy, relaxed fitting garments which are crafted for sophistication, but can also be dressed down for a lounge style. The Cloud Set and Sparrow Set are two examples of the ultimate lounging garments, but also the Ivy Dress/Top with its oversized mid-drift drape and whimsical bounce, it will brighten and relax one just on wear.
